Things to Watch Out For

If you have orthostatic problems, you have probably already figured out some of the things that bring it on or trigger more symptoms. There are a number of things that are known to trigger symptoms or make them worse.


Common Triggers - These are the things that are known to bring on episodes or make symptoms worse. It's nice to avoid them, but that isn't always possible. Recognizing they are triggers can still help - you can take action to control how much they interfere. Learn more....

 


When You Can't Avoid a Trigger - There are some basic things you can put into action that will help when you can't avoid something. Most of the actions come from the Taking Care- Everyday Self-Care, but sometimes, we slack off on doing the whole routine. Some people have different compression garments - one for everyday that isn't as tight and another for the more bothersome days (like a higher compression full leg stocking).   Learn more....


Drugs, Herbs, Vitamins and Supplements - We already know drugs (pharmaceuticals, prescription drugs) can affect blood pressure and pulse. Herbs also have an effect on the body and can affect the blood vessels and heart. Herbs don't generally have as strong an effect but they still have an effect, that's why people take them. Vitamins and supplements also affect the body. It is not our intent to have you avoid the drugs, herbs and supplements we identify here. Sometimes, they are what you need. The reason they are here is to give you information so that you know ahead of time that they might affect your orthostatic problem. Then, you can decide whether you want to take them and you know what to watch out for. If you chose to use them, start with a low dose and watch how it affects you. Keep track of your symptoms.
