Privacy Policy
Your privacy is important to you – and we take it seriously as well. This Privacy
Statement describes how we collect information, what we do with it and what controls
you have over your information. It applies only to our website and not to other websites
that are linked to this site.
“Information” means information about that is personally identifiable – like your name,
address, email address, phone number or any other data you provide here. It applies
only to our website. We cannot control other websites that are linked to ours, ones that
we do not employ or manage.
Free and Anonymous Access
This is the web site of The Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) Center. ("we" and "us"). Access is
free and anonymous. At no time are you required to give any information about yourself
to access the main web site. We do ask you to register so we can keep track of who is
using our site, however, it is voluntary. You will need to register to post content and
when you provide Public Comment on draft measures and policies. You can request to
be removed from our lists at any time.
The Public Comment section and Report Events will have places you can provide
information. The use of that information and any permission requests will be
specifically posted on the page so you are aware of the issues and give your
permission when it is needed.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share any data that might identify any individual with anyone or any third
party. We do not sell, rent or share our mailing list with others. We only send email to
people who have agreed to receive it from us. You can opt out of receiving
notices/email at any time. Each email will include information about how to stop
receiving email from The Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) Center. (See the privacy statement for the section on reporting
events and submitting public comments for more details).
Cookies
When you visit our site or any website, your browser sends information to the site’s
hosting server. It tells the server what browser you are using and your Internet Service
Provider. It also sends it information on the page you last visited and the page you are
currently visiting. Certain pages within the The Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) Center web site have the ability to place a cookie on your computer. We store your email address in a cookie file and place the file
on the hard drive of your computer. Most browsers accept cookies. These cookies
serve only to remember information that helps you get to pages you want. Cookies are
not used to track what pages you look at. If you wish, you can set your browser to
refuse cookies.
Access Logs
Each time some accesses a web page, it is recorded in a log file. This data does not
identify any individuals or information about an individual. It describes the data as a
whole.
We use this data to identify problems with our service. We use the information in the
log file The Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) Center to understand how many visitors we serve, what pages they look at most
and identify ways we can improve our services. We may need to share this general
data with consultants in marketing or with business partners, sponsors and/or
advertisers as we try to improve the services we provide or seek outside funding for our
work. It does not contain any information that would allow anyone to identify any
individuals.
We may also share information on an “as-needed basis” as required by law or to
cooperate with legal authorities in a criminal investigation.
Mailing Lists
We operate several mailing lists on topics or issues you tell us you would like us to
send to you. You may request to receive notice when new material is posted or new
action is needed. The mailing list addresses are not available for sale or rent to
anyone. You may remove your name at any time by using the same link that you used
to sign up. Instructions about how to remove your name are included at the bottom of
each e-mail notice.
E-mail This Page
Visitors can send an e-mail to a friend with a link to any of our web pages. We store
which pages are e-mailed and the IP address from which the request was made. Each
day, we generate a list of the top 10 e-mailed pages. Eventually, we will display that list
on the home page. We do not store the e-mail address of either the sender or the
recipient.
Polls
We are planning to start running polls to find out more about people with OI and how it is affecting them and their family/caregivers. Responses to the poll are anonymous.
The date and time, IP address, and vote for each vote cast is recorded and reviewed
prior to publishing the results. We use this record to remove obviously duplicated
answers, which sometimes happens. Removing duplicates helps to make the poll
results more accurate, but the polls are not scientific.
Security
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of
information that is under our control.
Summary
We do not obtain personally identifying information about you when you use of the The Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) Center
